More than 300 suspects captured for sexual-related cases

The units have vowed to intensify their investigations and contest any crime against women and children.

Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units throughout the province are continuing their tireless work to guarantee that perpetrators of crimes against women and children receive a deserving sentence for their lawlessness, Rising Sun Chatsworth reports.

Recently, investigators managed to secure nine life sentences and a total of 367 years imprisonment for such crimes.

The units have vowed to intensify their investigations and contest any crime against women and children.

Provincial police spokeswoman, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, said, “A total of 327 suspects were arrested for sexual-related cases and 42 convictions were secured during this period while other cases remain under investigation and some are still pending at various courts.”

One of the accused was sentenced to a total of three terms of life imprisonment for rape cases.

Some of the accused were convicted for various crimes such as rape, murder, kidnapping, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, attempted rape, robbery and child abandonment.
