400kg Corrie Le Grange dies
Edenvale resident and businessman, Corrie le Grange, 60, has died early this morning following a lengthy battle with his weight.
Le Grange, who weighed about 400kg, made headlines two weeks ago when his plight for medical help made headlines. He was eventually admitted to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, Kempton Express reported.
While at the hospital, Le Grange contracted double pneumonia and was admitted to ICU. He then contracted septicemia while in intensive care, and his condition started to deteriorate.
He was on a ventilator when he died at 2.15am this morning.
Timeline:
- In late June, it was reported that Le Grange, who had been diagnosed with ascites, had been turned away from hospital because he did not have the required fees that ran into thousands of rands, Bedfordview Edenvale News reported.
- On the afternoon of July 1, a neighbour offered to transport Le Grange to a hospital after paramedics failed to transport him using ambulances. Edenvale Fire Department personnel and paramedics were also at the scene on the day.
- Following his admission to the hospital it was July 2, it was announced that Le Grange was too weak for the planned medical treatment.
- On July 3, he was admitted to ICU where doctors hoped to begin treatment. He was also placed on a special diet. When his condition stabilised on July 6, Le Grange was moved back to his private ward. But 36 hours later, his condition started to worsen and he died.
