5 arrested, 3 victims freed in East Rand kidnapping rescue

A kidnapped bank executive is one of three victims freed in a co-ordinated raid during a multi-location operation.

A 54-year-old bank executive reported missing in Edenvale, on the East Rand of Johannesburg, was rescued yesterday following a co-ordinated multi-location operation.

Bedfordview and Edenvale News reports that, while SAPS has yet to confirm details, private security firm Vision Tactical reported that the victim’s blood-stained vehicle was recovered in Ivory Park.

One suspect was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport while attempting to flee.

Authorities seized the victim’s phone and found evidence of a large sum transferred from his account.

Further raids in Thembisa led to the arrest of three more suspects and the recovery of stolen vehicles.

Second raid

During a second raid, two additional kidnap victims — including one hijacking victim — were discovered and freed.

A fifth suspect was arrested at the scene, and a third victim was later located and reunited with his family.

All victims received medical attention, and forensic teams processed multiple scenes.
