5 suspected robbers killed in shoot-out with KZN police
A group of alleged robbers were firing shots at each other before police, who were tracking them, arrived at the scene.
Five alleged robbers were shot and killed in a shoot-out with police at Lindelani in Ntuzuma, KZN, on Sunday night.
According to an article published by The Witness, KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says police were tracking an unconfirmed number of suspects travelling in two vehicles.
“Information at hand indicated that the suspects were planning to commit a business robbery in KwaMashu.
“The suspects’ two vehicles were parked at the corner of Mdubu and Melusi streets and it is suspected that the suspects had a disagreement which led to shots being fired among themselves,” says Netshiunda.
He adds when police arrived, the suspects started shooting at them and the police retaliated.
During the shoot-out, four suspects were shot and killed.
“A search in the vicinity of the crime scene led to the discovery of the body of the fifth suspect who had attempted to flee and had sustained gunshot wounds,” he says.
Netshiunda says the suspects were found in possession of three firearms.
“No police officer was injured during the shoot-out.
“Two more suspects, who were injured when the suspects shot each other, were located at a hospital.
“A search is underway for the suspects who evaded arrest,” he says.
