5 suspects arrested for Ermelo farm murder
Law enforcement officers have closed in on alleged murder and robbery suspects in Mpumalanga.

Five suspects are expected to appear in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow in connection with a farm attack that took place late last year.
The body of Jan Weideman (59) was found on December 21, at 22:00, in the living room of his house on a farm outside Ermelo in Mpumalanga.
Police were notified about the gruesome discovery, and an investigation was launched.
Members of the Ermelo Investigation Team and the Secunda Murder and Robbery Unit arrested the five suspects with assistance from members of the Mpumalanga Tactical Response Team.
Three suspects aged between 23 and 34 were arrested 18 days after the incident, while the other two were arrested the next day.
The police’s investigation led to the recovery of three firearms that were reported stolen during the attack and another firearm that was reported stolen in Piet Retief in May 2022.
During the attack, a rifle, a safe containing jewellery worth more than R300 000, and a Toyota Hilux were stolen.
The vehicle was found abandoned in Breyten, with its battery missing, the following day.
During the arrest, the battery engraved with the vehicle’s registration number was found in one of the suspect’s possession.
The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, commended SAPS members who worked around the clock to connect the dots, leading to the arrests and the recovery of some of the stolen items.
