51 buses torched at 4 Mpumalanga depots: 4 appear in court

Four men accused of torching 51 Putco buses in KwaNdebele appeared in court and were remanded in custody ahead of their bail application.

The four suspects arrested in connection with the torching of 51 Putco buses were remanded in the Mdutjane Magistrate’s Court, Mpumalanga, yesterday.

According to Mpumalanga News, the case was postponed to Wednesday, when they are expected to make a formal bail application.

The four men were arrested for allegedly being involved in the torching incident at four depots in KwaNdebele on January 27.

According to provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the first two suspects, Isaac Mabena (29) and Luthando Trevor Skosana (37), were arrested on January 28, a day after the incident. The other two suspects, Mduduzi Masango (31) and Steven Mthombeni (27), were arrested in Siyabuswa on Tuesday.

“The suspects are facing malicious damage to property charges,” Mdhluli adds.
