ATMs at Gauteng township filling station bombed

An armed gang made off with an undisclosed amount of money following another petrol station ATM bombing in Sebokeng.

An armed gang launched a daring attack on the Engen Armstrong filling station on Moshoeshoe Road in Sebokeng, Gauteng, in the early hours of Monday morning.

The audacious robbery saw two ATMs being bombed, one located within the filling station’s convenience store and the other outside.

Residents were awakened from their sleep by the deafening sound of explosives as the armed men brazenly executed their plan.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos and confusion as the gang swiftly carried out their robbery before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

Sebokeng police spokeswoman Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane confirmed the incident.

“Sebokeng SAPS confirms that a case of ATM bombing was opened following the incident,” she says.

She adds that the bombing is the second one to have happened in the area this month.

Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in apprehending the robbers.
