Basotho nationals arrested for house robbery, rape in Gauteng

Two girls were robbed of their belongings at their party and one of them was reportedly gang raped by the men.

What was meant to be a celebratory event ended up as a disaster after two sisters, aged 22 and 28, where robbed of their belongings in their home and one of them later gang raped.

The incident occurred on Saturday in Bekkersdal outside Randfontein in Gauteng.

According to Captain Solomon Sibiya from the West Rand District police commissioner’s office, four men who have been identified as Basotho foreign nationals, approached the victims who were throwing a party at the time.

They reportedly asked for food and after they finished it, they left the party.

“Just after midnight the four suspects came back and found the sisters preparing to go to bed. One suspect, who was armed with a firearm, held the victims at gunpoint and demanded their cellphones, cash and bank cards. The suspects thereafter grabbed the 22-year-old victim and forced her into another room at gunpoint. All four of them took turns raping her,” said Sibiya who added that the suspects then fled on foot.

Police officers were called out to the scene and cornered the suspects in the bushes nearby.

They were arrested and later detained at Bekkersdal Police Station where they were charged with house robbery and four counts of rape.
