Big drug bust on N2
Seventy-seven bags of dagga, weighing 308kgs and worth around R771 000, were found in the vehicle.
TWO men were arrested on the N2 freeway near Scottburgh on Wednesday last week when they were found to be transporting a significant quantity of dagga from the Eastern Cape to KwaZulu-Natal, South Coast Herald reports.
Various Saps units, including the Hawks from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime unit, received information about two vehicles reportedly carrying the drugs.
“The operation included the flying squad and K9 unit,” said Hawks spokesman, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo.
The police officers first noticed a vehicle driving very slowly towards them.
“When officers approached the vehicle, the driver stopped, exited the vehicle and fled into the bush,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.
Seventy-seven bags of dagga, weighing 308kgs and worth around R771 000, were found in this vehicle.

“Investigations revealed that the driver was also the owner of the first vehicle,” said Captain Francis.
Both vehicles were confiscated and the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger, Nthando Ndoyokwe (32), and Thando Mbele (31) were arrested.
They appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court and were released on R3 000 bail each.
Their next court appearance is on September 27.
