Boys on bike ride discover abandoned baby in bushes in Limpopo

A man who went with the boys to where they heard the baby cry, says she was hungry and weak they found her.

A two-day-old baby girl, who was left in the cold with only a plastic refuse bag covering her, was found alive in the bushes at Ha-Rabali near Makhado in Limpopo by two boys riding their bikes.

After having survived a bitterly cold evening, she was discovered the boys who heard her crying, last Monday.

Solly Muladi who went to the site where the infant was found, says he and a friend were approached by the two boys.

“We were at a nearby carwash when they approached us, saying they heard a baby crying in the bushes. Once we arrived there, we saw a refuse bag and found the neatly dressed baby inside.”

Muladi says it is his view that the baby had been abandoned earlier that evening.

“The baby looked hungry and was weak.”

The police in Mphephu, Limpopo are appealing to the community to help them trace the mother.

The baby is now being cared for at the Siloam Hospital.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says they are investigating a case of concealment of birth. He urged the community to assist the police in finding the mother.
