Businessman robbed and shot in Mpumalanga mall
Two gunmen stole a bag of money from a bank patron, after shooting him.
A Middelburg businessman was shot in the foot by one of two armed robbers when he entered Middelburg Mall’s Absa branch to deposit cash earlier today.
According to Middelburg Mall Manager Mike Tammadge, the robbers entered the branch shortly before the victim, who was carrying cash in a bag and was accompanied by two other men.
Tammadge says it seems as if the robbers had intelligence on the trio, as one of them allegedly targeted the man as soon as he went into the queue to deposit the money. He demanded the bag of cash, but the victim refused to hand it over.
He then pulled out a firearm and fired a shot at the man’s foot.
The victim sustained a flesh wound and was taken to hospital in stable condition.
The getaway car, a white Volkswagen Polo, was parked at one of the entrances to the mall with its engine running.
Tammadge says only one shot was fired and no one else was targeted or injured.
