Cash-in-transit guard robbed at gunpoint in Mtubatuba

Kwamsane police are investigating a case of armed robbery after a cash-in-transit guard was held at gunpoint and robbed of a large amount of cash last Wednesday.

Reports indicate that a security guard went into a filling station at KwaBhobosa, near KwaMsane, to collect cash.

Police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, said that the guard was reportedly approached by two armed men while he was walking towards the cash-in-transit truck.

“At gunpoint, they ordered the guard to comply with their instructions,” said Mdletshe.

“A third suspect arrived on the scene, disarmed him and took the cash box.

“The suspects then ran to the back of the filling station premises, while firing shots in the air.”

Mdletshe said no one was injured during the incident.

“A case of armed robbery was opened for investigation at KwaMsane SAPS, but no arrests have been made as yet.”
