Chimp conservationist Jane Goodall dies at age 91

Jane Goodall leaves behind a global legacy of advocacy and sanctuaries dedicated to protecting wildlife.

World-renowned primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall passed away today, October 1, at the age of 91.

The Jane Goodall Institute confirmed the news, saying she died of natural causes while in California as part of a US speaking tour.

Goodall was considered one of the foremost experts on chimpanzees after more than six decades of observing their social behaviour and advocating for animal rights.

Her legacy includes founding the Jane Goodall Institute, and managing Chimp Eden – a sanctuary in the Umhloti Nature Reserve near Barberton, dedicated to rescued chimpanzees.

“Dr Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionised science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world,” a post read on the Jane Goodall Institute’s Facebook page.
