A man died after community members allegedly assaulted him for stealing a goat in Ekangala, near Bronkhorstspruit, east of Pretoria, yesterday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Marissa van der Merwe said the 21-year-old man died from severe injuries at the Ekangala clinic, Rekord East reported.

“According to a witness, the 21-year-old was chased by a few community members on Wednesday, who accused him of stealing a goat. He was running for his life when he was caught and assaulted by members of the community,” said Van der Merwe.

Van der Merwe said the police, with the help of the community, are still trying to identify the suspects.

A case of murder has been opened by the Bronkhorstspruit police and investigations are ongoing.

No arrests have been made so far.
