Crags firefighters battle Tsitsikamma blaze

Over and above the men on the ground, two helicopters and a spotter plane have been working since Monday battling the blaze which intensified due to hot, dry weather and strong wind conditions.

Plettenberg Bay Working on Fire (WoF) firefighters based in the Crags are currently assisting authorities battling the two fires that are raging in the Tsitsikamma.

The fires forced the temporary closure of the Tsitsikamma Tollgate yesterday.

Teams from Sedgefield and Concordia also joined the efforts.

According to the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association, about 200 firefighters are currently deployed in the area.

The fires are raging in the Coldstream and Koomansbos areas. Both areas include commercial plantations and natural veld.
