Customer finds roach in meal

Another critter was found packaged in food, but this time in a popular Indian restaurant in Midrand, Gauteng.

It was alleged Sivan Govender ordered a takeaway meal from Thava Indian Restaurant at the Carlswald Centre on January 23 and was dissatisfied when he found a small roach in his meal,Midrand Reporter reported.

Govender immediately contacted the manager, who was reportedly apologetic about the matter.

It is believed Govender proceeded to report the matter to the health department, who have dispatched a health inspector to check out the restaurant and will take further action if any health hazards are found.

“It’s not about the money, but good quality and healthy food,” added Govender.

Thava Indian Restaurant management said the inspector would visit the restaurant today, and that they would publicly address the matter after further investigation.

In a separate incident, a customer discovered what appeared to be the skull of a rat in a packet of sliced mushrooms in December last year.

Woolies customer Alison Matthews said she was “absolutely disgusted, to say the least”.

Matthews had purchased the mushrooms from a Woolworth store in Amanzimtoti and made the discovery when she arrived home to cook dinner.

In another incident, Woolworths was in trouble with consumers after a customer found a dead frog in their Italian salad in Novermber last year.

Dirk Steenekamp posted a picture on Twitter with the hashtag “#WooliesFrogSalad” of the dead frog he found in the salad he bought from Woolworths.

Just over two weeks after a Woolworths customer reportedly found a dead frog in his salad, the retailer was hit with another claim of critters packaged in their food.

The disgruntled customer shared a picture on Twitter of a salad purchased at Woolworths.

According to the customer, the frog was still alive.
