Dead body of man found on beach

Investigations are ongoing after the body of a man was found on Illovo Beach, near Winklespruit, in KwaZulu-Natal.

The unidentified man, believed to be in his 30s, allegedly sustained a gunshot wound to the head and several stab wounds to the chest and back yesterday, South Coast Sun reported.

Toti police attended the scene, along with the police search and rescue unit, who removed the body from the beach.

In a separate incident, the body of a man believed to be in his 50s was found at a petrol station in Orange Grove, Johannesburg, last Wednesday.

Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Nurse Sanyane said the unidentified man was initially thought to be sleeping on 11th Street, but upon further investigation, it appeared the man had died.

The owner of the BP petrol station, John Gatti, said: “We thought the man was asleep. He was, however, dead …”

He appeared to have succumbed to an unknown illness, Sanyane said.

He added: “We do not think that there is any foul play involved, and police are currently investigating the matter.”
