Dead buffalo found on city road

motorists travelling along Cedar Road in Fourways, north of Johannesburg, got more than they bargained for yesterday morning when they came across a buffalo carcass.

The body of a female buffalo was discovered by a group of cyclists early yesterday morning, according to a local newspaper report. The animal is believed to have fallen off a truck and died from its injuries.

The Randburg SPCA, along with representatives from the Johannesburg Lion Park, found the buffalo moved to the side of the road with the tail severed. The carcass was visible to passing motorists and metro police cordoned off the area.

This followed a media report yesterday that Super Sport presenter and former professional cyclist Andrew McLean was hospitalised after he crashed into a dead buffalo.

He was on his morning training ride from the Cradle of Human-kind. McClean was reportedly seriously injured and required surgery. Photographs of his X-rays and damaged bicycle have been circulating on social media.
