Department of Health concerned over an increase in Covid-19 related deaths
There were 160 more deaths recorded, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country to 17 408.

The Department of Health has raised concerns over a noticeable increase in the number of Covid-19 related deaths.
Department spokesperson Dr. Lwazi Manzi said the department consulted with the provinces to ascertain the reason for the increase.
“We have received reports that the provinces are implementing the recommendations of the Medical Research Council (MRC) to reconcile the data with Home Affairs’ deaths data. In addition, provinces are auditing the deaths’ data either by mining data from the DATCOV surveillance reports and identifying unreported deaths or auditing the facilities on the ground. “
Meanwhile, South Africa now has 686 891 confirmed Covid-19 cases, the Department of Health announced on Thursday.
This is 1 736 new cases recorded since Thursday.

– Northern Cape: 18 388 cases
– Limpopo: 16 054 cases
