Drugs worth more than R1,5 mil seized in Polokwane

The drugs, which were discovered at a local courier company, were destined for New Zealand and the Netherlands.

POLOKWANE – A woman and three men, between the ages of 43 and 53, are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 28.

The four were arrested by the Directory For Priority Crime’s investigation unit on Thursday, June 24, after a shipment of drugs were discovered in Polokwane.

A statement by Hawks spokesperson Capt Matimba Maluleke indicated that Hawks
reacted to Crime Intelligence (CI) information regarding a suspected consignment of two black leather bags containing drugs ready to be couriered by a courier company in Polokwane.

Members of the Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit followed up and a search was conducted at the courier company.

“Two leather bags full of drugs were found and seized. The suspect, who was identified as the owner of the consignment, was in the vicinity together with her three accomplices and they were subsequently arrested.
Their vehicle was also searched and the police found another bag full of drugs. The value of the seized drugs is over R1.5 million,” he added.

Maluleke said preliminary investigation revealed that the drugs were destined for New Zealand and the Netherlands.
