Drunk driving arrests halts KZN wedding

A groom, two teachers and nurses were among 45 motorists arrested for drunk driving during a Road Traffic Inspectorate operation in Newcastle.

A wedding scheduled for 11am was postponed after a soon-to-be groom and his father were arrested for drunk driving yesterday, reports Northern Natal News.

According to Siboniso Duma, MEC for the KZN Department of Transport, the pair were among 45 motorists arrested by Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers during the Nenzani La Ezweni operation in Newcastle, KZN over the weekend.

Duma said those arrested included a lecturer, a safety manager, two teachers, two nurses, a student, and a chief liaison officer from a local municipality.

“Arrest all of them and show no mercy,” Duma is quoted as saying.
