Elderly KZN woman stabbed multiple times

A partially blind 85-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed multiple times at her home in Verulam, near Phoenix, in KwaZulu-Natal, during an attempted robbery on Wednesday.

According to the security company Reaction Unit South Africa’s spokesperson, Prem Balram, the attempted robbery took place during the early hours of Wednesday morning, Phoenix Sun reported. It is believed the suspect gained entry into the home through the roof while the victim and her daughter were asleep.

“It is suspected that the victim woke up while the suspect was in the residence. It is alleged that she was attacked in an attempt to silence her,” Balram said. The suspect then fled the residence empty handed. The suspect is said to be known to the victim.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and treated the woman for multiple stab wounds before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Balram said a R10 000 reward was being offered by the security company for any information leading to the arrest of the unknown male suspect.

In November last year, a 60-year-old woman and her two grandchildren were found dead in their flat in Port Edward, KwaZulu-Natal. According to police, they had sustained stab wounds to their chests and necks.
