eMalahleni home invasion victim recovering after skull surgery

A man who spent time in the ICU after being assaulted with a brick has been discharged from the hospital.

A young man who was assaulted over the weekend during a home invasion in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, is recovering at home.

Witbank News reports that Enrico Rossi (21) has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home following a skull operation to clean out a hole that occurred during the assault.

His mom, Jackie Rossi, says the membrane covering his brain had to be repaired.

The next three months are crucial as infection must be prevented.

A plate will later be placed over the hole to cover it.

The attack

Enrico was attacked when his house was broken into on Sunday.

His tiny dog woke him by growling, and he thought a cat had gotten into the house. But as he switched on the kitchen light, he noticed his TV was missing.

He immediately phoned his parents.

Jackie recalled the horrifying moment she heard her son plead for his life: “He saw a man with his face covered and shouted for him to get out, and the man ran out. Enrico immediately phoned Ryan (Enrico’s father) to tell him his TV had been stolen, but as we answered the phone, we heard Enrico on the other end shouting they had come back in with a gun and a brick.”

Jackie and Ryan phoned back after the phone line went dead, and one of the perpetrators picked up, laughed, and ended the call.

The perpetrators hit Enrico over the head with a brick twice, and as he fell, they took his watch and ripped his Saint Christopher necklace off.

They also ransacked his car, taking his phone and other belongings.
