Eskom announces load-shedding plans until Monday

Stages 2 and 3 power cuts are on the card for this weekend.

Eskom says that varied stages of power cuts will be implemented throughout the weekend, with some reprieve on Sunday.

Power utility spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says unplanned outages are currently at 13 461MW of generating capacity, and a generating unit at Hendrina Power Station is yet to be returned to service. “The capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 7 321MW,” she says.

Mokwena says that as a result, stage 3 load-shedding will continue until 05:00 tomorrow, when stage 2 will be implemented.
If no significant changes occur, there will be a load-shedding-free stint between 05:00 and 16:00 on Sunday.

“Approximately 2 100MW of generating capacity is anticipated to return to service by Monday morning,” she adds.
