Eskom implements stage 3 rotational load-shedding until Monday
Customers are reminded that there is a possibility of increased load-shedding over the next 18 months as Eskom is conducting critical maintenance to restore the ageing plant to good health
Stage 3 rotational load shedding was implemented on Saturday, 15 February at 9 am and will continue until Monday morning, Randfontein Herald reports.
Eskom announced that despite some units having returned to service last night, Stage 3 load shedding will be implemented from 9 am Saturday to accommodate the shortage of capacity and to replenish emergency reserves, this is planned to continue until 5 am on Monday, 17 February.
Diesel reserves for open-cycle gas turbines and water reserves for the hydro-pimped storage schemes were utilised extensively on Friday and overnight to supplement the storage of capacity and are not at adequate levels to sustain the capacity shortage for Saturday.
Unplanned outages and breakdowns were at 10 612MW as of 6 am Saturday while unplanned maintenance is at 6574MW.
As the system is vulnerable, Eskom further stated that any additional changes on the system performance may require a shift in stage at short notice.
