Eskom ramps up load-shedding

Further generating capacity loss results in stage 4 power cuts being implemented until at least tomorrow afternoon.

Eskom has decided to prolong the implementation of stage 4 load-shedding.

This stage of power cuts was initially forecast to be lowered to stage 2 at 05:00 tomorrow, however, the reprieve will not happen.

Power utility spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says: “Following the loss of an additional four generating units today, and the requirement to replenish emergency reserves, stage 4 load-shedding will be maintained until 16:00 on Sunday (previously communicated [as] stage 2 load-shedding).”

What the forecast for the week is, is unclear at this stage, but Mokwena says Eskom will publish a further update tomorrow afternoon.
