eThekwini City Manager arrested again

eThekwini Municipality's City Manager, Sipho Nzuza has been arrested again for violating his bail conditions.

EThekwini Municipality’s City Manager, Sipho Nzuza has been arrested again for allegedly violating his bail conditions, Berea Mail reports.

Nzuza was arrested earlier this year as the 16th accused in the tender case also involving former eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede.

Nzuza was released on R50 000 bail in March. One of his bail conditions was that he would refrain from signing off or being involved in any tender or supply management chain procurement processes.

After serving his suspension, Nzuza was reinstated last month to his position of City Manager. During an executive council meeting, Mxolisi Kaunda, eThekwini Mayor revealed that he had received official letters from Nzuza delegating his signing-off power to Deputy City Manager, Sipho Cele.

However, the Democratic Alliance in Durban said they had reason to believe that Nzuza was still signing off on procurement tenders and violating his bail conditions.

On Monday, the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (Hawks) announced that Nzuza would be appearing in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court for allegedly contravening his bail conditions.

“The National Clean Audit Task Team deployed in KwaZulu-Natal became aware that Nzuza was placed on special leave by the eThekwini Municipality and that upon his return from leave of absence, he engaged in certain actions which were in bridge of his bail conditions. The team immediately initiated investigations into this matter which amounted to conduct which clearly indicated that Nzuza violated the bail conditions issued to him,” said Colonel Katlego Mogale.
