Ex-police officer killed in front of family

A former police officer has been shot and killed during a robbery at his home in Linden, Johannesburg, this morning.

Andre Fabricius and his family were allegedly attacked by three men armed with a gun and axes at about 3am, Randburg Sun reported.

He was reportedly shot in the heart while his wife and 13-year-old son were tied up in the house.

According to Fabricius’ sister-in-law Nadia de Kock, the axes were used to assault the deceased’s 13-year-old son.

She added the boy was being helped by a psychologist after witnessing his father’s murder.

Police, along with security companies and a forensics team, were on the scene.

Last week, a 38-year-old man was shot and killed in front of his wife and two children during a hijacking in Benoni, on the East Rand.

According to police, the family were returning home from church when they were approached by armed men in their driveway.

One of the men then allegedly stuck his gun through a half-open window of the family’s car and fired a shot, killing the father.
