Father, son shot dead in Pretoria tavern fight

A 23-year-old man and his father were shot and killed after a fight broke out at Matlala Tavern in Block T of Soshanguve, Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena said a group of men were gambling at a tavern in the early hours of Saturday when suddenly a fight broke out. Apparently the 23-year-old son’s money was taken from him by a fellow gambler, Rekord North reported.

“The man then called his father, and a few minutes later his father came to confront the alleged perpetrator. During the confrontation, the father was shot three times in the chest, and when his son tried to get involved, he was shot twice. Both of them died on the scene,” Mangena added

Mangena said the suspect ran away but was found and arrested on Saturday. His gun was also found but with no bullets.

Last month, two men accused of killing a man, 32, at a local tavern were stoned to death in Marikana, near Rustenburg, North West.

Police spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said the two apparently had an argument with the man, the 32-year-old victim who was stabbed, before they allegedly attacked him. He was stabbed with a knife in the neck. He said the man was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
