Fisherman finds human head on Umdloti Beach

Police removed human remains from a beach on the KZN North Coast after a fisherman made the grisly discovery.

A human head washed up on Umdloti’s north beach, about 10km from Umhlanga in KZN, on Sunday morning, reports the North Coast Courier.

Umdloti Smart Village precinct manager Vicky Schnetler said a local fisherman made the gruesome discovery just after 08:00 and alerted the authorities.

“A fisherman identified the object as a human head at 08:14 this morning and stopped Marshall Security to report the incident,” she said.

SAPS removed the remains from the beach.

Human remains found along KZN coast in recent months

In March, the Zululand Observer reported on suspected human remains found in the dunes near Alkantstrand, Richards Bay.

Melinda Ashington saw a piece of clothing sticking out of the sand on March 25 and grew curious. As she dug deeper, she uncovered what appeared to be human bones.

Police removed the remains, and pathologists are examining them to determine their age and whether they could be linked to any missing person or criminal case.

On January 7, human remains were found at Pennington Beach on the KZN South Coast.

South Coast Herald reported at the time that authorities were investigating whether the remains could belong to one of three victims who went missing after a drowning disaster at Pennington Beach on New Year’s Day. Six people drowned in the incident, and while three bodies were retrieved, three people remained missing.

More human remains were found on Pennington Beach on January 18. The South Coast Herald reported that beachgoers came across what appeared to be the left leg bones of a person. The bones were also sent for forensic analysis to determine whether they could be linked to the mass drowning.
