Floods ravage KZN – more rain expected

A level 8 warning has been issued for KwaZulu Natal where widespread flooding has already caused extensive damage and resulted in the death of at least two people.

The South African Weather Service has warned that there is still a 60% to 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms in the province today.

The office of the MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal Honorable Kwazi Mshengu has issued a safety alert for all parents, and guardians within the province to use their discretion whether to send their children to school today.

In Scottburgh, the R102 collapsed near GJ Crookes Hospital, with several cars damaged in the process.

Low-lying parts of the Ladysmith CBD had to be closed of due to flooding.

In Richards Bay, flooding left a trail of disaster but no deaths have been reported thus far.

A woman as well as a motorist, who were swept away by floods in KwaDukuza, have been found and saved by rescue teams.

In Durban North, a video went viral of two residents who decided to paddle their canoes around a flooded traffic circle.

Also in Durban, a mother and her two daughters are missing after their house collapsed earlier today.

Stapleton Road in Pinetown has been left submerged after heavy rains.
