Former councillor killed in Amanzimtoti

KZN police are investigating this morning's murder of a former eThekwini ward councillor who was shot multiple times at a construction site.

Sunil Brijmohan, the former eThekwini Municipality Ward 90 councillor, was shot and killed by unknown men at a construction site on Cato Crescent in Amanzimtoti this morning.

Amanzimtoti SAPS spokesperson Captain Charlene van der Spuy said Brijmohan (47) was on the roadside at his construction site at 55 Cato Crescent at 08:05 when two unknown African males walked up to him and shot him twice in the face and once on his right side, fatally wounding him.

“The suspects then fled on foot. It is alleged that they got into an unknown white vehicle which was parked down the road and fled the scene,” Van der Spuy said and added that the motive for the killing is unknown.

Brijmohan was an ANC councillor from 2016 to 2021. Ward 90 includes Isipingo and northern parts of Amanzimtoti.

A case of murder has been opened for investigation.
