Former Durban metro cop gets life for wife’s murder
KZN man sentenced for fatally stabbing a lawyer during a domestic dispute at their Montclair home.
The former metro police member charged with the murder of his wife, was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Durban High Court on Wednesday (May 13), reports Southlands Sun.
Qiniso Sishi (41) was charged for the murder of his wife, Thandokuhle Sishi (48), who died after Qiniso stabbed her multiple times at their home in Woodhaven, Montclair in July 2025.
Sishi was a Durban Metro police officer in eThekwini Municipality while his wife was a lawyer.
In his guilty plea he said stated that their relationship was characterised by repeated aggression and violence from both parties, which resulted in their divorce in November 2024. However, they remarried in May 2025.
The court heard that on July 25, 2025, the accused was with friends at a tavern where they were drinking alcohol.
During this time, his wife and her daughter were at home in Woodlands.
The accused pleaded guilty on the charges.
In his guilty plea, Sishi told the court that he arrived home shortly before midnight, after which an argument ensued between him and the deceased.
He then fetched a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the deceased multiple times in the chest and abdomen.
Her screams alerted others who attempted to assist, but Sishi refused them access to the house.
He thereafter tried to commit suicide by attempting to slit his wrist and stabbing himself in the chest. However, the police arrived at his house, arrested him and he was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
His wife was also rushed to hospital, however, she died en route.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentence.
NPA regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said they were impressed with the sentence.
Advocate Rakesh Singh handed in a victim impact statement, compiled by a family member of the deceased and facilitated by the court preparation officer, Thandeka Nadi Mofokeng.
In the statement, the family described the deceased as a kind-hearted and generous person.
“Her death has had a profound and lasting impact on her loved ones, who continue to grieve her loss. Curbing the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide remains an organisational priority for the NPA. Together with partners in the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster, the NPA remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of these offences are held accountable,” said Ramkisson-Kara.
