Free State man due in court after woman’s rape

An intoxicated woman from Rouxville was raped and assaulted in her bed, allegedly by someone she knew.

A 51-year-old man is expected to appear in the Rouxville Magistrate’s Court in the Free State on charges of attempted murder and rape following his arrest in connection with an incident that took place on Friday (June 13), reports Bloemfontein Courant.

According to Free State police spokesperson Sinah Mpakane, the complainant alleged that she had been visiting a neighbour and consuming alcohol from around 14:00. After nightfall, she returned home to sleep and, due to her intoxicated state, reportedly went straight to bed without locking the door.

Mpakane said the complainant reported that approximately 30 minutes after arriving home at around 20:30, someone entered the house. When she looked up, she allegedly recognised the suspect. “The suspect strangled her and dragged her from one bed to another, where he undressed her and raped her before leaving the house,” Mpakane said.

The complainant reportedly waited until daylight before reporting the incident to authorities. Police activated the necessary role players and the suspect was subsequently arrested.
