Gang tries to steal gold from mine at Evander

A gang of robbers tried to steal gold from a safe at Shaft 7 of the Kinross Mines near Evander, Mpumalanga last night, 25 November.

According to information received, a large group armed men stormed the security guards at Shaft 7 at about 11.30pm. They overpowered two guards. Several shots were fired during the attack.

The robbers dragged the security guards into the mine and tried to grind open the safe.

They fled from their unsuccessful heist, leaving behind their grinders and vehicle.

No one has been injured.

Col Jenny Alberts, Evander Station Commander, said the police have already made arrests.

She asked that anyone with information, contact Capt Malepe at 082 065 1299.

The police and the Secunda K9-unit, as well as the mine security and other security companies are still on the scene and the investigation continues.
