Gauteng Covid-19 active cases at 33 3407 as total confirmed cases hit 205 246

Gauteng’s overall Covid-19 positive cases climbed to 205 246 with 171 839 recoveries and 3 227 deaths thus far, according to figures published by the Department of Health.

This saw the province to have about 33 3407 active cases.

In a statement published on Sunday, the Gauteng province recorded 1 413 new cases on Saturday.

The Department of Health said out of 109 770 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 88 238 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 3 230.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

• Johannesburg: 82 480 cases and 73 635 recoveries
• Ekurhuleni: 46 131 cases and 43 227 recoveries
• Tshwane: 43 889 cases and 34 864 recoveries
• Sedibeng: 13 843 cases and 9 501 recoveries
• West Rand: 13 138 cases and 10 612 recoveries

• Mogale City: 6 836 cases;
• Rand West City: 3 432 cases;
• Merafong City: 2 778 cases;
• And 92 unallocated cases.

On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
