Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 13 023

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 13 023 with 3 716 recoveries and 87 deaths on Tuesday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Wednesday.

The department said out of 20 518 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person tested positive for Covid-19), 13 579 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The department said 630 people were currently hospitalised in the public and private facility.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

• Johannesburg: 6 514 cases and 1 988 recoveries
• Ekurhuleni: 2 592 cases and 890 recoveries
• Tshwane: 1 853 cases and 485 recoveries
• Sedibeng: 369 cases and 65 recoveries
• West Rand: 955 cases and 288 recoveries
