Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 81 546

6 531 new cases recorded in the province on Thursday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 81 546 with 26 438 recoveries and 515 deaths on Thursday.

In a statement the Department of Health on Friday, said out of 39 076 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 25 100 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and they were de-isolated.

The department said 3 006 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

  • Johannesburg: 38 045 cases and 15 478 recoveries
  • Ekurhuleni: 18 100 cases and 5 844 recoveries
  • Tshwane: 13 246 cases and 3 061 recoveries
  • Sedibeng: 3 888 cases and 643 recoveries
  • West Rand: 5 266 cases and 1412 recoveries

  • Mogale City: 2 825 cases;
  • Rand West City: 1 161 cases;
  • Merafong City: 1 186 cases;
  • And 94 unallocated cases.

On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
