Good news: Load-shedding to be suspended during the day this weekend

Stage 2 load-shedding will continue to be implemented until 05:00 on Saturday. Thereafter, load-shedding will be suspended until 16:00. This pattern will be repeated on Sunday.

Due to the recovery of additional generation capacity and adequate emergency reserves, as well as anticipated lower weekend electricity demand, the immediate load-shedding forecast has brightened.

Following bouts of high stages of load-shedding, stage 2 load-shedding was implemented at 10:00 this morning and will continue until 05:00 tomorrow. A second piece of good news followed just after 16:30 today, when Eskom announced that the power would stay on for the bulk of tomorrow and Sunday.

Thereafter the following will apply:

  • Tomorrow: Load-shedding suspended from 05:00 to 16:00
  • Tomorrow: Stage 2 from 16:00 to 05:00 on Sunday
  • Sunday: Load-shedding suspended from 05:00 to 16:00
  • Sunday: Stage 1 from 16:00

Eskom will closely monitor the power system and provide an update for the week ahead on Sunday.

Unplanned outages have reduced to 13 733MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is at 8 121MW.

A total of 2 440MW of generating capacity is planned to be returned to service by Sunday.
