Govt employee demands justice after assault at local home affairs dept
The man's wife made a video as he was assaulted allegedly by officials from the home affairs offices in the Pretoria CBD.

A 40-year-old government employee was recently assaulted, allegedly by five officials at the home affairs department in the Pretoria CBD.
The man, who is also a priest from Buffalo City metro, has demanded accountability from the home affairs department after the assault.
On June 3, Mtheza Gengele and his wife (33) travelled to the Pretoria CBD home affairs to enquire into a notification of death form requested in 2021.
“My wife and I flew from East London and drove from the OR Tambo International Airport to Pretoria.
“We arrived at the offices and met with a woman who said she was an official and asked to assist us.”
Gengele said he showed the woman the emails he had sent regarding the issue.
However, when she found out he was from another province she allegedly refused to help him.
While attempting to get into the building, Gengele was allegedly knocked to the ground by officials.
While his wife took a video, Gengele was “kicked, strangled, held down by knees and assaulted”.
“I was dragged to the driveway, then another isolated area where the assault continued.”
Gengele claims once the assailants saw his wallet and noticed he was a government employee, they stopped.
He said the matter had since also been communicated to the Presidency, the home affairs department’s minister and director-general for assistance.
“I am still waiting for the form since my assault.”
Gengele said he tried to open an assault case at the Pretoria Central police station but was unable to do so.
The police station could not confirm whether this was the case as Gengele did not receive a case number.
The Department of Home Affairs has not responded to an enquiry sent on the matter.
