Hawks probe murder of police sergeant in Khayelitsha

An off-duty police officer was gunned down, allegedly by two armed men, in the Western Cape.

The Hawks is investigating the murder of an off-duty police sergeant who was shot dead while visiting a relative in Khayelitsha yesterday (June 21). 
 
Brigadier Novela Potelwa, the Western Cape police spokesperson, says the incident occurred at 14:55.  
 
She explains that two armed men entered the relative’s home and that multiple shots were fired at the 47-year-old officer, allegedly by the men. 
 
They then reportedly fled in a vehicle.  
 
Potelwa adds that a murder docket was opened at Lingelethu Police Station. 
 
“The motive for the shooting is the subject of the police investigation,” she says.
