Hijackers fatally shoot man in Ekurhuleni driveway

Hijackers fatally shot a 63-year-old man on Julius Road in Witfield, Ekurhuleni, on Sunday.

Boksburg Advertiser reports that, according to Boksburg North SAPS station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu, as the victim pulled out of the yard and stopped his vehicle to lock the gate, four men approached. One shot the man in the head before fleeing the scene with his car.

Paramedics on the scene certified the victim as dead.

Police believe the hijackers were on foot when they carried out the attack.

The hijacked vehicle was later found abandoned on Du Toit Street.

A case of murder and hijacking is under investigation.

Hijackings in Witfield on the rise

The police warn that hijackings in the area are rising and urge residents to always remain alert to their surroundings.

According to Arrive Alive, one crucial fact to remember when being hijacked is that if the situation could end in armed intervention and escape is not possible, immediately drop to the ground, stay still and obey all orders.

If confronted:

• Do not lose your temper, threaten or challenge the hijacker/s
• Do exactly as the hijackers tell you
• Do not resist, especially if the hijacker has a weapon. Surrender your car and move away. Try to put as much distance between yourself and the hijacker/s as speedily as possible
• Do not reach for your purse or valuables. Leave everything in the car
• Try to remain calm and show no signs of aggression
• Comply with all the perpetrator demands
• Do not make eye contact with the hijacker/s. They could perceive this behaviour as a threat and retaliate
• Keep your hands still and visible to the hijacker/s to assure your passive content
• Do not speak too fast (if you can talk) and do not suddenly move
• Gather as much information as possible without posing a threat: How many people. How many firearms and a description thereof. The perpetrators’ clothing. In which direction did they drive off. Take note of their language and accent.
