Eight people tragically lost their lives and scores were left injured in a horrific crash on the N2 near Empangeni this morning.

Zululand Observer reports that the tragic collision involving two vehicles occurred on the N2 northbound lane above the John Ross highway.

While the cause of the accident is not yet known, emergency services were on scene to stabilise the injured.

Four people sustained critical injuries, while ten were treated for serious injuries. The injured people were transported to Ngwelezana Hospital for further treatment.

The section of the N2 in the vicinity of the accident was temporarily closed while the scene was being cleared. Motorists are advised to delay travel or use an alternative route.
