Husband to spend 13 years behind bars for wife’s murder

The husband of slain retired nurse and community activist, Jenny Pillay, was found guilty of her murder and handed down an 18-year sentence in the Durban High Court, on Monday.
Navin Chanderlal (53) will only serve an effective sentence of 13 years as five years of his sentence was suspended, Rising Sun Chatsworth reports.
The 65-year-old grandmother was in the process of relocating to live with her children in the UK, but was pronounced dead by paramedics in the bathtub of her home on Christmas Eve, in 2018.
Family members confirmed that the couple had been experiencing marital problems and were due to divorce.
