The investigation into the missing R27 million in Covid-19 procurement funds, is still under way. No arrests have been made thus far.
According to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) spokesperson Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, they still cannot divulge information about the ongoing probe, “but we are getting close”.
The DPCI conducted a search and seizure operation at Nkomazi Local Municipality in July.
According to Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, the operation follows investigations in relation to alleged Covid-19 procurement fraud, wherein the appointment of contractors and service providers were inconsistent with the requisite procurement regulations.
“The monetary value involved is approximately R27 million. The DPCI’s serious commercial crime investigation, digital forensic laboratory and the local SAPS’ criminal record centre seized several documents from different offices, that will assist in the ongoing probe,” said Mulaudzi on Friday morning.
Further details will be made available at a later stage.
