Joburg couple robbed at home

A couple has been robbed in Glenanda, Johannesburg, when four suspects allegedly managed to jump over the gate leading into their garden.

The woman who lives in the house was working in the garden on Tuesday when the incident happened, Comaro Chronicle reported.

The suspects allegedly told her it was a robbery and forced her into the house, where her husband was, and locked them both inside a bedroom.

The suspects made off with two TVs, a cellphone and R3 500, which they loaded into the victim’s car, police said.

It is believed the tracker in her car was activated and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers were able to spot the car in White City, Soweto.

One suspect was shot and arrested. The car and TV were recovered, said police.

The suspect remains under police guard in Baragwanath Hospital.

The value of the stolen goods was R70 000, added police.

Investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident, a man was robbed at gunpoint in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, earlier this month.

The complainant reportedly withdrew an amount of R70 000 from the First National Bank ATM in Galleria.

When he arrived at his home, he was approached by two men who pointed firearms at him and demanded he hand over the money, police said.

The suspects also demanded the bag belonging to the victim’s wife, which contained R10 000 and a cellphone, police added.

Amanzimtoti police communications officer Captain Charlene van der Spuy said the men then fled the scene in a blue hatchback VW Polo.
