Community members and runners gathered at Kempton Park Police Station on Saturday morning, (September 19), to honour the memory of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo and other women who have lost their lives, reports Kempton Express.

Different groups of runners and community members started their runs from various locations before making their way to the police station, where they joined together to voice their concerns about the safety of women.

The gathering comes amid heightened concern following the discovery of several women’s bodies in Kempton Park and other parts of Ekurhuleni in recent months.

Participants used the gathering to stand together in solidarity with the families of the women who lost their lives and to call for stronger action to improve safety in local communities.

The event follows a series of community initiatives held in memory of Moselakgomo, 38, whose body was positively identified by her family after she was reported missing on September 9.

Police are investigating the deaths of women whose bodies have been discovered at various locations across Ekurhuleni and have increased their operational presence in affected areas.

SAPS has appealed to communities to provide investigators with information that could assist in the investigations and has warned against spreading unverified information about the cases.
