Step into the wild this September as the Kruger and 20 other parks open their gates mahala later this month.
Ahead of the annual celebration of SA National Parks Week, the South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that 21 national parks will grant free access to visitors from September 22 to September 28.
Highway Mail reports the celebration allows all South African citizens to enter national parks for a day visit.
What’s included
It is important to note that free access does not include accommodation or other paid activities within the parks, only entry for day visitors.
Included in the list is the Kruger National Park, however, no KZN parks are included.
Purpose of the week
“National Parks Week has seen an influx of day visitors in all participating parks since its inception in 2006. SANParks also uses this time to cultivate a sense of pride in South Africa’s natural, cultural and historical heritage as protected and preserved by the national parks system,” SANParks said in a statement.
“SA National Parks Week has proved to be a successful campaign that provides education and awareness about South Africa’s inclusive approach to conservation. While offering an opportunity to experience South Africa’s rich natural and cultural heritage, attention is also drawn to the sustainable development practices made possible through partnerships with key roleplayers like communities living adjacent to national parks, businesses, scientists and tourists.”
