21 national parks open their gates for special entry

A total of 21 parks are participating which gives citizens free entry to national parks for day visitors only.

AHEAD of the annual celebration of SA National Parks Week, the South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that 21 national parks will grant free access to visitors in September from September 22 to September 28.

The celebration is a period where all South African citizens are allowed to enter national parks for free for a day visit.

It is important to note that free access does not include free access to accommodation or other paid activities within the parks, simply free entry to national parks for day visitors only.

Included in the list is the Kruger National Park, however, sadly no KZN parks are listed.

“National Parks Week has seen an influx of day visitors in all participating parks since its inception in 2006. SANParks also uses this time to cultivate a sense of pride in South Africa’s natural, cultural and historical heritage as protected and preserved by the national parks system,” SANParks said in a statement.

“SA National Parks Week has proved to be a successful campaign that provides education and awareness about South Africa’s inclusive approach to conservation. Whilst offering an opportunity to experience South Africa’s rich natural and cultural heritage, attention is also drawn to the sustainable development practices made possible through partnerships with key roleplayers like communities living adjacent to national parks, businesses, scientists and tourists.”
