Krugersdorp township church shooting: One killed, another injured
A horrible scene played out recently when three armed men shot at congregants while they were in church. One person died, another was injured.
A group of congregants are in shock after a man was shot and killed during a church service in Kagiso, Krugersdorp.
Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya said the incident took place at about 18:00 on Friday, June 11 in Rietvallei.
We received a call about a shooting at a local church and when we arrived on scene, we found a group of shocked congregants inside the church. Upon further investigation we found the body of a man lying in a pool of blood a few metres away from the door.
“The congregants informed police that they were praying when they heard gunshots outside the church,” said Sibiya. He added that three unknown men then entered the church, shooting randomly.
“One male congregant was fatally wounded and died on the scene, whilst another church member sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was rushed to hospital in a serious but stable condition.”
The men allegedly took cellphones, handbags, laptops and Tupperware belonging to the congregants before fleeing the scene.
The motive for the attacks is unknown, but a case of murder, attempted murder and business robbery is being investigated.”
An urgent appeal is therefore made to the public to assist with information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Anyone with information can contact the Kagiso Police on 011 696 9059, 011 696 9065 or 011 696 9067, or the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111.
